Fogging and Moisture Trapped in Glass Sliding Doors, Can it Be Fixed?
Part of the appeal of sliding doors is the view to the outdoors they provide. Troublesome condensation within the door glass often fogs that view, particularly on days when humidity is high.
Fortunately, fogging and moisture trapped in glass sliding doors can be fixed.
Moisture trapped between double panes of glass typically occurs when the seal between one of the glass panes and the door frame is broken. Once the seal was broken, the old school of thought was that the door needed to be discarded or the glass panes replaced at a price close to that of replacing the entire door.
No more. A new procedure has been developed that saves your door and also prevents moisture from developing again.
Here’s how it works: A sliding door professional drills two small holes into one pane of glass, one at a bottom corner and a second hole on the opposite side, at the top. Solutions are injected through the top hole and between the two panes of glass to remove the moisture and any residue left behind.
After all the liquids are sucked out via a tube inserted into the bottom hole, an injection of air dries the glass panels. Inconspicuous plastic vents are inserted into the holes to allow air to flow between the glass panels and stop condensation from reappearing.
Although this can be a DIY project for those who are handy, the sliding door specialists at A-1 On Track suggest leaving this job to a professional who has experience using the kit made especially for removing moisture from between glass panels. That way, you can be certain the job is done correctly.
